Week 10- The Journey Continues: Persistence in ASL Practice

Learning a new language is always a fulfilling experience, and American Sign Language (ASL) has been no exception for me. It is a unique and expressive language that allows me to communicate meaningfully with the deaf and hard-of-hearing communities.

Although it can be challenging to make time for language learning amidst the busy routine of daily life, I have found that consistent effort and dedication can lead to significant growth and improvement over time. One thing that particularly brings me joy is the opportunity to sign "O Canada" whenever I am working in classrooms. It has become a familiar ritual, a moment of connection and celebration of both language and culture.

As I reflect on this past week, I am reminded that progress is not always measurable in great strides, but rather in the small victories that we experience along the way. For me, these victories have come in the form of a fluidity in my signing, a confidence in my gestures, and a deeper connection forged through shared language. Each moment has reminded me that my journey toward fluency in ASL is not a race but a journey marked by perseverance and resilience. It is nice to go on Google in my spare time and look at ASL charts to see if I can learn something new. It is good to look at ones where many students could know what it means.

Looking ahead to the coming weeks, I am excited to continue exploring the rich and vibrant world of ASL. While the road may have its twists and turns, I am grateful for every opportunity to practice and learn. Every sign that I master, every conversation that I have, and every connection that I make brings me one step closer to fluency and proficiency in this beautiful language.

As I continue on this journey, I am reminded that learning is a lifelong process, one that requires dedication, patience, and a willingness to make mistakes. But with each small victory, I am filled with a sense of accomplishment and a renewed motivation to continue on this path. So, here's to the journey, one sign at a time.
